Was Sir Alex Ferguson’s selection of David Moyes his biggest mistake at Manchester United?

Yet another disappointing display!
#During his glorious 27 years as manager at Old Trafford, collecting a glut of trophies along the way, Sir Alex Ferguson was successful in limiting any major errors on his part to a minimum.

However perhaps the biggest mistake Ferguson will be remembered for was recommending to his board that the man who should replace him in the hot seat was David Moyes, and now sadly for their fans the chickens are coming home to roost on that poor decision
as Manchester United’s fall from grace is now making them a laughing stock in the English game.

Sunday’s 3-0 humbling at the hands of Liverpool added further evidence of Moyes’s inabilities of displaying any tactical acumen nor the sufficient capability of handling the task of managing one of the biggest clubs in world football.

Liverpool were superb, make no mistake they are right in the hunt for winning their first Premier League title in 24 years, but despite all the well-deserved plaudits that can be lauded on Brendan Rogers’ side, United supporters are simply not convinced that the man at the helm of their own team has shown anything whatsoever to suggest he will be able to turn things round.

Of course it is fair to remember the squad of players he inherited from Ferguson was not the strongest, United’s league win of last season has as much to do with the rebellion within the Manchester City camp which ultimately led to the removal of Roberto Mancini as with their own winning consistency.

But United were still champions and with the proven talents of David De Gea, Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie at his disposal Moyes had the backbone of a team which should have done so much better than the mediocrity their performances have shown.

It is patently obvious through the words and actions of the players that they are not convinced he has got what it takes to lead them back to the top, in many ways it a mirror image to the collapse of the Red Devils in the early 1970s when Wilf McGuinness replaced the legendary Matt Busby and in the space of six years the club had fone from the ultimate high of European Cup glory to the bitter low of relegation.
Is his big decision costing Man Utd's now!

Last season Robin van Persie was sensational, his goals being the undoubted major factor in the title win but this year the Dutchman looks disillusioned and disinterested, his recent comments following the Champions League debacle highlighting his frustration at the way Moyes is managing the team.

And the continued failure of any potential attacking potency coming from his colleagues Rooney and Juan Mata further evidence of the failure from Moyes to get the best out of his players.

United are a shadow of the sides which so enthralled those attending the theatre of dreams for so long, the lack of creativity from the midfield and threat coming from the two wings is galling to see.

It takes a certain type of person to be able to succeed at a big club like United, as well as a winning philosophy a manager must possess boundless resources of strength of character to handle the magnitude of the task in hand and perhaps as by-product of his strong Christian faith Moyes does not appear to have the fire burning inside him required to succeed.

On the touchline he appears hesitant and uncommanding, he looks out of his depth.

Even progression to the quarter-finals to the Champions League, most definitely not a certainty given the fact they require to overcome a two goal deficit against Olympiakos on Wednesday, will fail to convince the doubters.

It is believed that on hearing he had been overlooked for the post of succeeding Ferguson that Jose Mourinho burst into tears, right now the vast majority of United supporters must be sharing his frustration that the Special One was not named as the Chosen One too.
