Liverpool and Man Utd among the clubs alerted to Ajax star availability

Top English clubs will be closely following Ajax’s Christian Eriksen after it was revealed that the youngster is not ready to sign a new deal with the Dutch Eredivisie side.

The Danish play maker  who is regarded as one of Europe’s finest talents, has been targeted by Liverpool and Manchester United in the past, with Tottenham and Manchester City also interested.

The Ajax man’s contract is set to expire in 2014, and Ajax will be keen to sell him in the summer in order to avoid losing him for free next season.

Ajax’s technical director Marc Overmars said that although they would like the player, who is set to turn 21 next month, to remain at the club for at least two more years, if Eriksen decided to move on, he could easily fit into any squad with his huge talent and potential.

“Christian has informed us that he doesn't want to sign a new contract right now,” Overmars told sporten.dk. “I think he and his agent want to see what opportunities present themselves this summer.”

Eriksen’s agent Martin Schoots also confirmed the fact that Eriksen had not agreed to sign a new contract, but added that the player wanted to focus solely on football at the moment, and worry about the speculation later.
