MANCHESTER UNITED ACE ANDERSON: I WILL FIGHT FOR MY PLACE

ANDERSON has vowed to stay put at Old Trafford and fight for his Manchester United future.

The Brazilian midfielder has become a bit-part star this season, struggling to hold down a place in Sir Alex Ferguson’s side.

He has spent most of the campaign
watching from the sidelines as United have charged into a 12-point lead at the top of the Premier League table.

Anderson has made just 12 starts this season and only 164 appearances since 2007, with reports at the weekend claiming he had tried but failed to leave United in recent months.

However, Anderson, 24, insists he can still become an integral part of Fergie’s plans and wants to show his boss how good he can be.

He admits it would be a backward step to leave Old Trafford, unless he joined Barcelona or Real Madrid.

“The only places you could go to from here are Real Madrid and Barcelona, you can’t have another choice,” he said.

“The level at Manchester United is so big and so massive. You come here and you are definitely going to win titles.

“I have won the Premier League three times. I have won the Champions League once and lost two finals. I came to United as a Brazilian and I have been here six years. It is not easy to stay here. I love it here, but it is hard.

“I came here when I was very young. I came from Porto and there were people like Paul Scholes and other big players. It was hard.

“In my first year I did very well. In the second I played some games and missed some, then I have had big injuries.

“But I have always been here when the boys have needed me.

“It is not true that I nearly left. Everyone knows I am happy at the club.

“I have had a lot of injuries but I have never let the smile go from my face. When I don’t have these problems, I know my quality. I know I can play.

“I try to help the team all the time. When I want to leave, I will have to talk to the boss first, but I don’t have any issues.”

Nani is another star name understood to be on his way out of United, but Anderson insists players need to accept Fergie has a huge pool of talent at his disposal.

Both impressed in United’s 2-1 FA Cup fifth-round win over Reading on Monday night, with Portuguese Nani scoring one and creating another. Anderson admits being part of Fergie’s squad tests your patience.

He added: “It is hard because there are 25 players here who can play for any team in the world.

“Everyone knows Nani’s quality can be high. He came into the game and won the game for us.

“That could be me, Nani, anyone. It is not easy to play for Manchester United.

“A lot of top players came here and couldn’t do it, like Juan Sebastian Veron, some big players. Kleberson came here and didn’t play.”
