The contrast in fortunes of the two teams in this fixture could not be more apparent.
It’s bottom plays top at Loftus Road as runaway Premier League leaders Manchester United are entertained by Harry Redknapp’s struggling Queens Park Rangers.
Rangers are on a dismal run of form, and lie four points adrift
at the foot of the table.
Last time out they suffered a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Swansea City, but Redknapp will know that it’s the home games that are key to the Hoops’ push for survival.
Cruising
But this will be no ordinary home game. United are cruising at the top of the table, 12 points clear and with Manchester City not coming close to the form they showed for much of last year, Sir Alex Ferguson will be hoping to secure a 13th Premier League title as soon as possible.
The club will be cautious of a similar advantage they had in the closing stages of last term, only to see the title snatched (quite literally) by City in the dying seconds of the season.
United of course enter the game as favourites, but will be mindful of Rangers’ much improved backline, which has not conceded a home goal this calendar year.
QPR are without defenders Jose Bosingwa and Fabio da Silva, who has recovered from a groin injury but is on loan from United so misses out.
Junior Hoilett could return to the squad following a hamstring problem. January signing Loic Remy and the excellent Julio Cesar (both groin) are doubts.
United are missing Darren Fletcher and Paul Scholes, and Phil Jones is out after limping off during Monday’s FA Cup win over Reading with a foot injury. Striker Wayne Rooney is a doubt having picked up an illness.
Match Pointers:
- QPR have not scored at home in the league since Boxing Day, Djibril Cisse netting in a 2-1 loss to West Bromwich Albion.
- The last time United lost an away game was November 20 against Galatasaray.
- Robin van Persie has scored the same amount of league goals (19) as QPR have managed as a team in the league this season.
Rory Langdon’s prediction: QPR 0-2 Man United
